They are extremely beautiful
in contrast with the green walls of my valley !
They came in from the lowest entry to our rather small round valley and circled their way up, as they always do in the evening spin of the wind.
With the bamboo and forest so green, they were just beautiful, first seing their white backs way down, then at eye level and finally against the blue sky up high ... and off over the highest part of the valley to the next one ...

Buzzard
tea break ...
we watch a buzzard shit
from the telephone pole
He sat there for a while on the only pole amongst the rice paddies, then lifted his tail feathers, took a deep breath (so to say) and then squeezed a huge white load out, more than a meter behind himself ... where it then made its way toward the earth ...
Since this spring, we see him more often, trying to compete with the local tombi, the black milan.

Tanada Matsuri - Rice Paddy Festival 棚田祭り 2008 village festival - the smell of wild boar from the barbeque tents in the park |
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
The wild boars have been rather a nuisance in the last few years, as you might remember me writing about them and the hunters quite often.
This hunter had brought the result of his winter activities and shared a delicious shashlik with all of the villagers.
Start the walk from HERE (16 photos) !

Ichigo Ichie
Ichigo Ichie 一期一会
One Time, One Encounter
Many people are easily bored with routines such as sweeping the floor, making a bed, or preparing a meal. The motto in the Japanese tea ceremony schools is ichigo ichie which means "one time, one encounter." Though all the intricate movements of the tea ceremony can be repeated, they are never the same.
For the Japanese, each moment is unrepeatable and special in its own right. Those who want to live the spiritual life would be wise to adapt this motto and apply it to everything we do. Cleaning the floor today is different from the time we did it a few days ago. The light in the room may be different or the velocity of our sweeping motion.
With ichi-go ichi-e, boredom is vanquished.

one life, one meeting
one chance, one meeting
one moment in the endless flow of time
"Treasure every meeting, for it will never recur."

"We only have one chance

darkness between

the darkness between
my ignorance
quote
the darkness between the stars
is a tone poem/haiku in which I tried to invoke the darkness/void/loneliness of deep space; out where there is nothing. 99.9999+ percent of the universe is an empty lonely place.
while I was writing this piece I imaged myself floating in the darkness of deep space billions of miles from any other being, billons of miles from even just another object, with just the faint dots of stars everywhere in the black void.

Geisha Dances in Japan
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
In line 1, I use the word THIS on purpse, to strengthen the idea of this special one, which I saw on TV the other night.
THIS can be used to translate a cut marker, and here it would be YA at the end of the line.
It is not just any dancer (Azuma dancer, an Azuma dancer, the Azuma dancer) ... as line 1 would read otherwise.
After the cut, the haiku continues with the same image. It is therefore in the "ichibutsu jitate" tradition of Japanese haiku.
