台風18号 / Typhoon Number 18
It was not as bad as expected in our parts of Japan.
Now, Thursday 8, the sun is shining, as the typhoon is heading from Nagano toward Sendai in Northern Japan.

As Typhoon Melor makes landfall around the Kii Penninsula in western Japan, a total of 500 flights were cancelled between Wednesday and Thursday. Toyota Motor Corp shut down production in all of it's 12 Japanese plants because of the storm. Japan Energy Corp, the nation's sixth-biggest oil refiner, said it would halt overland oil shipments from its Mizushima refinery in western Japan during the night hours. Nansei Sekiyu KK's refinery in Okinawa said high seas were delaying some ships.
Winds have since slowed down considerably as Typhoon Melor interacts with cooler water and strong westerly winds on the north side. The latest satellite video shows this dramatic decrease in the storm's structure. What was once a powerful Super Typhoon with winds gusting to 196 mph, hits the coast as the equivalent to a Category 1 hurricane with winds around 86 mph. Rain may still exceed 10 inches along it's path, leading to widespread flooding. The good news is that this storm continues to weaken, and the forward speed should increase, limiting the time it impacts Japan.
This latest forecast leaves Tokyo on the strong side Melor when it makes landfall.
