    closer
    to the gods than I
    tallest tree

    its roots
    deeper than mine
    tallest tree

    around its trunk
    a myriad ant trails
    tallest tree

    if it falls
    who will hear the sound?
    ... tallest tree

    tallest tree ...
    I cannot hear
    its murmurings

    summer sky
    even the tallest tree
    scatters its seeds

Poetic theme you've started here, Gabi. My husband and I have been taking regular walks lately, and I'm learning to identify the trees and birds in "my area of the woods".

  3. the world’s tallest tree-
    in the scattered pinecones,
    such tiny seeds

Here’s an interesting fact: The tallest living tree today is the Mendocino Tree, a coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) found at Montgomery State Reserve near Ukiah, California, USA. It is 115.5 meters tall, still growing, and about 600 years old. That’s not very old for a redwood tree. There is one in Sequoia National Park, California, USA, over 3,000 years old, which is the world’s largest tree in volume.

The world’s oldest known tree, 4789 years old, is a bristlecone pine named Methuselah, It, too, lives in California.
