late snow

late spring snow -
the bamboo cracks
in despair

snowclouds over Japan

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

heavy snow ---
the bamboo bends
deeper

next morning - - -
a ray of hope
behind the bamboo

18 rays of hope take two

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

40 more bent branches END

39 branches down to earth

This snow is very heavy and damaging for the plants.

I hope to be out for photos later, now it is six in the morning
and I hear the sound of breaking branches outside.

The bamboo in the grove hang their heads soooo low !

And more snow in the forecast until tomorrow !

  4. thanks, old pajamas, for your kind words.
    Today finally we have sunshine and the thaw begins ... but slowly.

    And the big gingko tree in Kamakura has fallen ... what a storm that was !

  5. Gabi-sama, just wrote something with bamboo bent in snow in it yesterday.
    Two haiku, one by Buson and easy to find and one I had searched out from Chiyo's zenshu which might be hard to find are pasted below in japanese

    愚に耐へよと窓を暗うす雪の竹
    蕪村 貧居八詠より

    雪で曲がった竹の傑作は、千代女の「そっと来る物に気づくや竹の雪」となるが、上記の蕪村句の方が狂句。
