Rape blossoms (na no hana) . . . . . KIGO

Spring water (haru no mizu) . . . . . KIGO

It takes about a month until the spring water dripping out of the mountain has filled all the paddies in this huge valley. The distribution of water is one of the most difficult things and often cause of fighting among the neighbours ... In modern times, we have a huge pond, just in case the rain and mountain water is not enough to fill up until planting. But using the pumps to bring water from more than five kilometers away is expensive.
Being a farmer for terraced wet rice paddies is not easy. And thinking of the forefathers who started all of this, with no maschines and only human hands to work with ... These tanada seeme like the pyramids to me, just downward the valley!

I am looking at it for a long time ...
He is definitely smiling, I feel.
Trying to figure out whom this face resembles.
Do you know anyone?

signs of spring, haru meku 春めく a kigo

.........................................

some comments

What an interesting concept, Gabi!
The face does have a sense of familiarity...

.....

Hi Gabi san

Hmmm... wondering about the "not" which I think you and or Etusko san warned me against using in HAIKU... what about:

signs of spring:
I find the garden stone face
under the soil

The original may be walking a thin timeline here as this is two moments... uncovering the face and trying to remember.

Maybe it was Akegarasu sensei who warned me... sometimes it is difficult for me to remember as I got good advice from you all.

as I re-read I thought

signs of spring:
from under the garden soil
a stone face emerges

well... this still needs work and I have no idea yet how to fit it to the Japanese

I hope I helped remove the knot of not... hee hee

Well, what do you feel? Chibi

... Hi Chibi san, thanks for your kind thoughts.

It must have been Akegarasu giving you advise ...

two moments or just one ... that is a thin line indeed ..

I see the face clearly on my stone, I just do not remember whom it resembles ...

maybe YOUR face ?

.....

Memory and perception are not always easily divided.
The fusion of the two may be the essence of the moment.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Hanamomo 花桃, is a species grown to enjoy the red flowers. The fruit are rather small and negligible.
My neighbour planted this tree more than 10 years ago and counts the flowers each year ... like counting the years he will soon spend in eternity.

My neighbour is a descentent from the Heike clan, who fled to our moutains many hundred years ago. He still carries the character HEI (pei) for HEIKE in his name, like most of our neighbours here.
He also planted many Genpei Peach trees, look at some here and read more below.

Iron Water Kettles
Cast-iron kettle
Nanbu iron kettle

It is said that water boiled in iron teapots called Tetsubin 鉄瓶 is the best for making green tea, which explains the popularity of Tetsubin in Japan. Water boiled in poor-quality iron teapots tastes of iron and thus spoils the taste of green tea.

Initially ironwork production here was dominated by cauldrons, however as the tea ceremony grew in popularity, the iron kettle is said to have been created by making these cauldrons smaller and adding a spout and a handle. Nowadays the ironworkers of this region produce around 35 different products – not only iron kettles but also wind chimes, bottle openers, ashtrays, ornaments, wall hangings and vases.
Nanbu ironware was designated a traditional craft by the Japanese government in 1975.

Elegance in Iron
The Art of the Japanese Tetsubin

Morikami Museum
Exhibition September 29 - December 6, 2009

In 18th century Kyoto, literary men with an interest in Chinese learning rebelled against the formalized manner of the Japanese tea ceremony and took up the Chinese habit of drinking steeped tea. By century's end, this act of defiance had led to the development of the tetsubin, the Japanese cast-iron tea kettle.
This exhibition draws from the outstanding collection of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kramer and features more than 90 tetsubin from the 19th and early 20th centuries, when the affluence of the urban merchant class, which had begun to enjoy steeped tea as well, supported the cost of producing tetsubin with raised decoration and inlays of precious metals.
Elegance in Iron showcases the variety in shape and surface decoration of Kyoto tetsubin while also featuring kettles of northern Japan's Nambu region, where a folk tradition, little affected by Kyoto culture, fostered a dynamic aesthetic in iron tea kettles that complemented the region's robust lifestyle.

- quote -
From production to processing, Japan has developed a unique culture around metal.
The sharpness and beauty of Japanese swords are forged by pushing the material to its limits. Metal is also essential to cookware, including pots, pans and kettles. Our guest this time is Nobuho Miya, a caster who is designing a new kind of traditional Nambu ironware. Together, we'll discover the many facets of metal, and explore the metal designs which figure in everyday life in Japan.
